What is Digitization of cable TV services?
What is DAS?
Digitization is the process of providing cable television signals in digital mode with the use of Set Top Box. This requires television signals to be sent through a digital Set Top Box (STB) to the television set, which enhances the overall TV viewing experience of consumer.
What is the digitization bill passed by the govt.?
In simple words, the system used to control the distribution of digital television signals through cable is called Digital Addressable System (DAS). This ensures that only the Channels chosen and paid for by a subscriber are being received and viewed through digital Set-Top-Box (STB).
What are the strengths of digital cable TV?
The Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Amendment Act, 2011 has made it mandatory for switchover of the existing analogue Cable TV networks to Digital Addressable System (DAS) by December 2014, in a phased manner.
What are the benefits of digitization?

The basic function of the Set Top Box is to decrypt/decode the signals of those channels which the subscriber has been authorized by the multi system operator to receive and to convert the digital signals for viewing on television sets.
I have multiple TVs at home. Do I need different STB for different TV sets? Will I have to pay for each STB?
The STB will only be provided by Multi System Operators (MSO) and their linked Cable Operators providing cable services in their respective areas of operation.
What is account no.?
Yes, you need to have separate STB for every TV set. If the Subscriber has three TV sets then three separate STBs will be required and all will be priced individually.
What is the tariff plan?
Account Number is the unique identification number assigned to every customer in BRDS and this should be handy, when you interact with BRDS service executive.
What is the Fair usage policy?
Tariff plan is plan which the subscriber has opted for and which determines the Speed, FUP and the subscription charges to be paid by the customer for a given pre-determined period.
What happens in Fair Usage Policy?
A very small number of customers use an excessive amount of the network bandwidth, to the extent that it can impair the experience of others. The intent of our Fair Usage Policy is to provide the optimum internet experience to all customers.
Under the policy we have defined fair usage levels for unlimited data transfer plans and needless to mention, the usage levels set are very generous such that most customers will not be affected by the Fair Usage Policy.
What would happen with the speed of service after I reach the FUP?
What is the impact of FUP on data transfer limits?
On reaching the fair usage level, the plan speed would be optimized to Post FUP speed mentioned above in the table, for the rest of the month/ billing cycle as applicable. Please note that the speeds would be upgraded to the normal speeds at the start of the next month /billing cycle as applicable. While the subscriber has always the choice of choosing a right plan basis their individual requirements which is available in our website www.brds.in
We assure you that the data transfer limits remain unlimited and there will be no change on the same.
